About

Born in Catania, Italy, 1988.

Giovanna Vinciguerra is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is situated within conceptual and abstract paradigms, characterized by a direct and incisive visual language. Her work critically addresses social issues, exploring the capacity of art to function as a reflective and transformative tool, capable of generating awareness and opening new interpretive perspectives across different social contexts.

Her artistic research develops a complex constellation of relationships intertwining places, human genealogies, zoomorphic evocations, and mythological references. Through the convergence of personal and collective stories, chromatic structures and spatial installations, human presence and materiality, Vinciguerra constructs a coherent formal and conceptual framework. Rejecting notions of chance and fatalism, her practice affirms art as a deliberate cognitive process, guided by an internal necessity and capable of responding to ethical and perceptual demands that extend beyond lived experience, while simultaneously reaffirming it.

Her research draws on a wide range of media: painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video and sound, exploring the expressive potential of materials left in their rawness, manipulated and transformed into new and evocative assemblages, creating a visual alphabet rich in sensory and symbolic meaning.

She currently teaches Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts of Reggio Calabria.
