Born in Catania, Italy, in 1988.
Giovanna Vinciguerra is a multidisciplinary, conceptual, and abstract artist. Characterized by a direct and incisive visual language, her work critically engages with the dynamics and issues of contemporary society, exploring art’s capacity to function as a tool for reflection and transformation one capable of generating awareness and opening new interpretive perspectives across different social contexts.
Her artistic research develops through a complex network of relationships that intertwines places, human genealogies, cultural references, and evocative elements drawn from contemporary society, with particular attention to popular contexts. Personal and collective stories, chromatic structures, spatial installations, human presence, and materiality converge within a coherent formal and conceptual language through which Vinciguerra investigates the complexity of emotional experience and translates it into a visual and perceptual dimension.
Her practice approaches art as a conscious cognitive process, guided by an inner necessity and capable of engaging with ethical and perceptual demands that extend beyond individual experience, while remaining rooted in it.
Her research unfolds across a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video, and sound and focuses on the expressive possibilities of matter. Materials are preserved in their raw state, manipulated, assembled, and transformed into new and evocative configurations, creating a visual alphabet capable of activating sensory, symbolic, and emotional meanings.
She currently teaches Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts of Reggio Calabria.
